This is a very unfortunate situation. The Covenants always stated that sheds need to be sided and shingled to match your house. You may have been told that you did not need to match the siding and shingles of the house. This was a violation of the Covenants. If you did not use siding to match your house, but took the opinion of someone you trusted, we are very understanding of your problem. We want our community regulations and enforcement to be marked by one word — "reasonable."
Many people who moved into this community wanted the shed requirements to include sheds that matched their house exteriors. Some were told that plywood siding would be alright. We recognized the discontinuity and put the issue forward to a vote of the community. The community chose to keep the original requirements of size and siding/shingles. Though it is unfortunate that some were told they could build a shed with plywood siding painted to match, it is also not fair to those who followed the Covenants already established.
Again, we want to be "reasonable." Therefore we are going to do the following:
We will give you until Saturday, June 2, 2007 to side and shingle your shed. Most of the sheds will need to be repainted or touched up by this time. The costs you will incur at that time for paint can be applied to siding and shingles.
We are assembling a group of volunteers who have experience with siding and shingles. They will provide labor, free of charge, so that your cost will only be the cost of materials.
